Digital dental radiography, a fancy term for “digital X-rays," is a valuable resource when assessing your oral health. For those of you who may be understandably wary of getting these X-rays done, these three fast facts about digital radiography should put your mind at ease:

Digital X-rays require less radiation. X-rays have been around since 1895, proving for nearly 125 years the perks of this routine procedure. Moreover, while the amount of radiation that you would get from these is minuscule, many people are still resistant to any level of it. You still get all the benefits of having an X-ray taken when you get digital radiography but to the tune of 70% less radiation.

You get instant results from them. Since making the switch to digital technology, we have greatly decreased the wait time to get your results. Digital x-rays send the image immediately to a computer, allowing our dental staff to review them right away versus having to wait for the film to develop and come back from the lab. The sooner we get the results, the sooner we can start treating your oral health.

Digital X-rays give crystal-clear, easily enhanced images. Before, when we used film X-rays, toggling the quality of the images was more of a challenge. With digital X-rays, we can press a button and instantly increase or decrease the contrast of an image, allowing us to zero in on problematic areas. We can also enlarge areas that need closer inspection without sacrificing image quality. |
